To Learn is to Reclaim

Held over the first semester of 2012 at ESDI in Rio de Janeiro, these curriculum activities resulted from the core module Means and Methods of Representation II that I designed and taught. Crucially, all activities were student-led and started from a simple briefing discussed in the classroom.

50 Hearts

In 50 Hearts, students utilized the skills and methods developed in the module to create a creative response to the School’s 50th anniversary. The student-led project 50 Hearts was born and resulted in a series of explorations on symbols of affection displayed in a school-wide exhibition.

Making it up

In Making it up, students applied skills learnt in the Means and Methods of Representation on diverse illustrations, objects and displays that were shared and swapped in a school-wide event.

Reclaim your workshop

In Reclaim your workshop, a student-led occupation of the defunct screen-printing and letterpress workshops led to a series of experimental use of the found objects, materials, and machines.
